Or an option to say, "Hey Google, I'm fine until I get to the highway" or if Google proactively said, "I noticed that the last 5 miles of your route is on roads you have not traveled before. Would you like turn-by-turn directions for the last 5 miles?"

Though Google Maps does have that handy ability to switch to "Alerts Only" (as does Waze), I agree that it still has a lot of room for improvement. For example, if I'm headed to a new location where I need turn-by-turn directions, I want them turned on. However, I do not need them for getting out of my subdivision. I wish there was a way to have "Alerts Only" for routes I've traveled multiple times and "Unmuted" once Google Maps determines I'm in an area I have not been to before or have only been to a few times.

That's a great idea. It would be really nice if the first direction when leaving your house was something like "Head to hwy 401 and go East".

I also read The Hobbit to my 3 daughters when they were younger. Whenever I read to my daughters, regardless the book, I would make up different voices for each character. I will admit that making 13 different voices for the dwarves pushed my dad skills to the limit! When they later watched the films, they would respond, "That's not what they sound like." It did my heart good.

I'll second the overwhelming thankfulness to Christopher Tolkien for everything he did to keep Middle-Earth alive. May his journey into the West be swift for I have no doubt that he would be welcomed into Valinor with open arms.

I'm not a girl but my dad did this and I had the exact same feeling when I saw the movies!

It is not only used by telcoms. It is also used by utilities. So an unpaid bill on your broadband service can lead to a higher deposit when you move and sign up for electricity or propane.

Well you get your money back since its a deposit. Few hundred more is not ideal, but it is not much.

Same here. I bought a Dell Inspiron back in 2009 with Ubuntu pre-installed. I still use it to this day though it is pretty much on its last leg. I think the title is a little confusing. It should be that Dell is expanding the number of computers they offer with Ubuntu. This title makes it sound like they haven't been offering it for years now.

Though many companies do move bad PR to private communications, in this case a private message makes sense since AT&T is asking for personal information such as the customer's phone number.

Here's a document they wrote comparing the two: https://firebase.google.com/docs/firestore/rtdb-vs-firestore

So what happens if a physician marries a bartender? Does that increase their chance of divorce or decrease it? (Maybe a silly question but it would be interesting to dig into this shallow report with a much more critical eye.)

Cross-class marriages have become much rarer over time than they used to be. But I'd expect a pretty likely outcome of that marriage to be a resignation handed in at the bar.

Getting married tends to increase the chance of divorce.

Increases it, obviously; a physician and a bartender who are dating but not married have a zero percent chance of getting divorced!

> a physician and a bartender who are dating but not married have a zero percent chance of getting divorced!

That's only true if they also have a zero percent chance of getting married.

Getting married will still increase the risk of divorce, because it bumps the odds of getting married up to 100%, but two dating unmarried people have, in general, a nonzero risk of getting divorced.
