A core memory of mine was listening to the Doc. The show was on late Sunday night so I rarely got to hear the Five Five. One week, it was the Memorial Day weekend. My two closest friends and I were all able to hear the whole show. We met the next day to ride the bus downtown to the big mall. We talked and laughed all day about the songs we heard. Good times :D

This reminds me of something _why the lucky stiff would create.

I was thinking the same thing. The impact _why left on ruby is one of the things that make it such a unique language with interesting and weird projects like this. I love it.

My kids had one of these. It's a clever design. And it's true, the old style was much more interesting. Theoretically, you could press a new record for the old-style. Which would be a cool project.

I actually didn't have the old toy, I was looking for something like it but I just imagined it in my head and searching on the web I found the linked blog post as a result, so I read and at firt I was happy because the thing existed but then disappointed after I understood it doesn't exist anymore.

Actually with 3D printers that would be a fun elementary or middle school project

Being a latchkey kid hurt me academically. I just couldn't discipline myself to do home work. The lure of the TV or being with friends was too strong. So my grades slipped. I fell behind in math. Homework was stressful when my Mom got home because she couldn't help me. My dad worked swing shift for most of my youth. He would help when he could. If my parents or and afterschool program could have helped me learn how to do homework, I would have been better off.

Overall I was a well-cared for latchkey kid. My brothers and I were fed and my Mom was usually home around 6 or 7.

Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH. It's a sci-fi adventure with self-reliance and counter-cultural themes.

Yes! "Danny Dunn, Invisible Boy". It incorporated virtual reality with tiny flying drones for 'invisibility'. It was published in 1974.

I was inspired to make a handwriting copying machine based on the "Homework Machine" book.

Great series!

That's my experience. I have to trick my eyes to see it in 'divergent' mode. But all I have to do is cross my eyes and I can see the image. Although, I would see shapes sinking into the page not popping out.

Beej is a great guy. He was my instructor at this boot camp I attended. I learned a little C from him. I can’t really do much with it, but it was fun to learn.

Oh boy. Those extensions loading. So many times I held my breath when adding a new extension. If it doesn’t then you have to restart in Safe mode, or something. I won’t miss the extensions. OS 9 was cool. I used it a lot on my lime-green imac.

15 years ago I worked with a guy who was a Navy Veteran. He’d served in Korea. He still knew Morse Code. He confirmed what many are saying here that it’s all about the rhythm.

Once we were asking him about his experience and when he had to go he wrote on the whiteboard. C U N T. I was shocked and embarrassed. He was a professional guy why would he write this word in our workplace? My coworkers and I laughed nervously. He was grinning and said when ships would leave the port you’d message them C U N T in Morse Code. Which stood for "See You Next Trip"
