Exactly. There was a stretch of 6 months or so right after ChatGPT was released where approximately 50% of front page posts at any given time were related to LLMs. And these days every other Show HN is some kind of agentic dev tool and Anthropic/OpenAI announcements routinely get 500+ comments in a matter of hours.
(FYI: you can easily bypass the awful logged out view by replacing x.com with xcancel.com, I use a URL Autoredirector rule to do it automatically in Chromium browsers)
That's a dishonest framing of their argument. There's nothing logically inconsistent in believing wide adoption of AI tools causes developers' skills to atrophy and that the tools also fail to deliver on the hype/promises.
You're inserting "destroy humanity" when OP is suggesting the problem is offloading all thinking to an unreliable tool (I don't entirely agree with their position but it's defensible and not as you stated).
As an Android user since the T-Mobile G1, I tried switching to an iPhone 15 Pro as my primary phone from a carrier deal as the hardware looked nice plus Android/iOS has converged so much over the years with all the same apps available on either. I was pretty used to iOS from iPads and as a backup phone so the switching costs were minimal and the better MacOS integration seemed cool.
But man, the notifications are a constant thorn in my side. I have missed so many work notifications due to the lack of persistent notification indicator (other than on the lock screen), and the overall weirdness of iOS lockscreen notification panel (segmentation between "old" notifications that can be mass dismissed and "new" notifications that pile up individually-ish). I use an Apple Watch and somehow still miss Teams notifications as they come in, I'm not even sure how that happens...
I'm so close to abandoning the iPhone as my main phone and going back to my S23 Ultra pretty much entirely because of notifications, it's been a disappointment...
Hah, I was listening to a similar conversation that began with family members working in the school system complaining about AI slop that began (relatively) harmlessly in day-to-day email conversations padded with time wasting filler but now has trickled down into "professional" education materials and even textbooks.
Which led to a lot of agreement and rants from others with frustrating stories about their specific workplaces and how it just keeps getting worse by the day. Previously these conversations just popped up among me and the handful of family in tech but clearly now has much broader resonance.
As can be observed in my comment history, I use LLM agentic tools for software dev at work and on my personal projects (really my only AI use case) but cringe whenever I encounter "workslop" as it almost invariably serves to waste my time. My company has been doing a large pilot of 365 Copilot but I have yet to find anything useful, the email writing tools just seems to strip out my personal voice making me sound like I'm writing unsolicited marketing spam.
Every single time I've been using some Microsoft product and think "Hmm, wait maybe the Copilot button could actually be useful here?", it just tells me it can't help or gives me a link to a generic help page. It's like Microsoft deliberately engineered 365 Copilot to be as unhelpful as possible while simultaneously putting a Copilot button on every single visible surface imaginable.
The only tool that actually does something is designed to ruin emails by stripping out personal tone/voice and introducing ambiguity to waste the other person's time. Awesome, thanks for the productivity boost, Microsoft!
Maybe with newer models it's easier, but older ones you needed to go in some advanced settings to allow sharing the wifi, otherwise it'll disable your wifi connection. For pixels it was enough to just enable it from quick menu

Problem I had with the other newsfeeds is that I get distracted by the constant updates, always refresh the front-page, skipping the actual content and just skimming through headlines and comments.
So I built this one, set it as my homepage, and because it doesn't update often, I will actually read the content of the links. When I'm done, I move on to other things in life.
It's curated by matching keywords (focusing on web development) on HN, mostly automated but with few manual adjustments now and then.
It's a perfectly serviceable fallback when Claude Code kicks me off in the middle of an edit on the Pro plan (which happens constantly to me now) and I just want to finish tweaking some CSS styles or whatever to wrap up. If you have a legitimate concern about losing customers than yes, you're probably in the wrong target market for a $3/mo plan...
you can have a $20 usd /mo cursor with cutting edge models, and pay per use for extra use when you need per token, most of the time you will be ok within basic cursor plans, and you don't need to stick with one vendor. Today Claude is good , awesome ,tomorrow google is good - great.
I sometimes even ask several models to see what suggestion is best, or even mix two. Epcecially during bugfixes.
I've gone down that route already with Roo/Kilo Code and then OpenCode, but OpenCode with the z.ai backend and/or the CC z.ai Anthropic compatible endpoint although I've been moving to OC in general more and more over time.
GLM 4.6 with Z.ai plan (haven't tried 4.7 yet) has worked well enough for straightforward changes with a relatively large quota (more generous than CC which only gets more frustrating on the Pro plan over time) and has predictable billing which is a big pro for me. I just got tired of having to police my OpenRouter usage to avoid burning through my credits.
But yes, OpenCode is awesome particularly as it supports all the subscriptions I have access to via personal or work (Github Copilot/CC/z.ai). And as model churn/competition slows down over time I can stick which whichever end up having the best value/performance with sufficient quota for my personal projects without fear of lock-in and enshittification.
