"But it’s going to take 20 years or more for the entire country to even get to a place where all your suburbanites can afford the $5,000-$10,000 for the panel upgrade and wiring to charge at home.."

I'm charging just fine with a decent commute, using only a 120V 12A circuit. You don't need a 240V 50A circuit to charge your car in 4 hours.

Technology Connections does an excellent video on this:

It will help update your knowledge on this topic.

Sugar is 50:50 fructose:sugar and "high"-fructose sugar is 55:45. The slight difference in fructose:sugar between the two is not significant in terms of health outcomes, unless you mean sugar in general.

I can't make sense of your comment, but whatever you're trying to get at is wrong: Table sugar is sucrose. Corn syrup is mostly glucose and contains no fructose. HFCS is commonly produced at 42% and 55% fructose formulations. I don't think HFCS is meaningfully more or less harmful than any other sugar, but chemically there's a significant difference.

Sucrose is a disaccharide composed of 1 glucose and 1 fructose molecule, so the GP comment is correct, sugar is 50:50 glucose and fructose.

It's partly the pervasiveness of that product because it's in fking everything in the US at least. Why is it in BREAD? https://www.thedailymeal.com/1306301/unhealthiest-store-boug...

It's also the crazy amounts: we're accustomed to high levels of sweetness. Like 40g sugar in a can of soda.

It’s a humectant. And it subconsciously tastes good (yay capitalism).

They're not necessarily large, and the worst for humans is small particulate which gets into the bloodstream through lungs, PM2.5.

https://www.health.ny.gov/environmental/indoors/air/pmq_a.ht...

Breathing in unhealthy levels of PM2.5 can increase the risk of health problems like heart disease, asthma, and low birth weight. Unhealthy levels can also reduce visibility and cause the air to appear hazy.

Outdoor sources include vehicle exhaust, burning wood, gas and other fuels, and fires. Particle pollution can also travel long distances from its source; for example from wildfires hundreds of miles away. Outdoor particle pollution levels are more likely to be higher on days with little or no wind or air mixing.

I agree with everything you wrote. I meant to contrast them with "chemical" air pollution, and 2.5 μm is much larger than a molecule!

At the bottom of the article:

You can find the design on Makerworld, named SnoutCover, make adjustments if needed, and let’s help our pups live their best lives.

Yes, but it's published there under a restrictive license which doesn't allow sharing of derivative works.

I bought 32 GB of DDR5 RAM two weeks ago and it is $100 more already.

Are you an actual engineer with a degree and subsequent accreditation through a professional body? or an "engineer" by role? Those mean very different things depending on country, quality of education and skills or...how many Microsoft Points you have.

So many people calling themselves “engineers” these days don’t even know the first thing about siege warfare.

This drives me up the wall so much. I had a boss that used to introduce me to customers as an engineer, and I'd correct him on the spot. And now that I'm looking for another job (not because I pissed off the boss), I keep having to search through "engineer" roles because people can't get their terms right.

I work with engineers - actual electrical and chemical engineers that design processes and controls - and I make the software side of their ideas happen. They can't do their job without me, and vice-versa. But I'm a SCADA integrator, not an engineer, dammit.

Weird hill to die on

It is not trivial at all, it's the same energy used as about 9,000 homes and roughly 50-100 L/s of water wasted to evaporative cooling of said hardware.

"The Dongfang Electric Corporation's 26 MW offshore wind turbine is the largest in the world, surpassing previous models like the Mingyang 20 MW turbine. This turbine's larger size and capacity enable it to generate about 100 GWh of electricity annually, potentially powering 55,000 Chinese homes or 9,200 American homes."

Edit: more info here, https://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/2025-ai-impacts-data-cent...

Your water use estimate is high by a large factor. Order of magnitude.

Your claim: 50-100 liters per second to cool a 26MW workload.

Actual water consumption, according to Google annual report: 730 liters per second, globally, for an average 3GW load.

Barring all of the hyperbole of your comment, I find it astounding how you're unaware of this with such a "thumb on the pulse" of world news:

https://www.theguardian.com/world/live/2025/feb/04/benjamin-...

Trump said Palestinians have “no alternative” but to “permanently” leave Gaza due to the devastation left by Israel’s war on Hamas. He described Gaza as a “pure demolition site” and claimed Palestinians would “love to leave Gaza”. “I don’t know how they could want to stay,” he said.

Trump’s comments marked the first time he has publicly floated the permanent relocation of Palestinians from Gaza. The US president’s remarks in effect endorsed ethnic cleansing of the territory over the opposition of Palestinians and the neighbouring countries.

Trump is literally for completely ridding Gaza of the Palestinians so Israel can colonize it. An ACTUAL genocide.

The consensus ruling of the International Court of Justice is not hyperbole, it's a fact. Are you going to call the UN antisemitic like Benjamin Netanyahu did?

And actually, you in fact can argue that Trump has been better on the issue than Biden. Multiple news outlets have reported that it was Trump that forced the ceasefire:

Everything you find with regarding Trump is rhetoric while his actions have been much more peaceful than Biden's.

Which brings me back to my main point: it's absurd and hysterical to be claiming that Trump is uniquely fascist here. Whoever is freaking out now about him, and was not freaking out about Biden, is a fraud and should be called out as a fraud.

The US was telling Israel to hold back and trying to get aid into Gaza. That's not happening anymore. https://abcnews.go.com/International/shutting-usaid-major-im...

The US was in favor of a two state solution. The US is now saying that half of one state, by population, is no longer available. It's clear to anyone with two neurons to rub together that the other half is gone within the next four years.

Kinda amazing that Trump had been acting as de facto president all year even before the election - telling Congress what to do, meeting with Netanyahu, Putin, tons of other heads of state, and he now suggests that Israel just get handed Gaza. Just like Bibby wanted.

> Trump is literally for completely ridding Gaza of the Palestinians so Israel can colonize it. An ACTUAL genocide.

This was the goal of the Biden administration. The difference now is that without Israel demolishing Gaza every day, the resistance has demonstrated they cannot be dislodged. Trump has no credibility. They simply cannot do it and both the U.S. and Israeli officials that enabled this are war criminals that should be prosecuted immediately.

Hasbara bots are out in extreme force.

you said it brother (or sister)

I humbly disagree, at least at the local level. Get involved and you'll be surprised at how much you can do. Local clubs, like an Optimist Club or Lions Club volunteering for your community builds relationships. Many people involved are part of the community: business owners, politicians, accomplished/connected individuals, etc. Much of what affects you in a democracy is local and can be changed if you get involved. It is not just about checking some boxes every couple years.
