100% correct. The GitHub repo linked elsewhere include this documentation in (dit)roff (-ms) form.

A buffer underflow that overwrote a pointer that overwrote 1 byte of code in the multiplication library (no hardware multiplication or memory protection, by the way) that caused unsigned multiplication to be handled as signed multiplication (or perhaps vice versa). This didn't manifest until much later, of course.

Perl has DBI. PHP has PDO.

Python has DB-API.

If Tesla optimus robots were breaking into my house at night, logging into my computer, and using my web browser, this would be one solution.

You didn't mention anything about how the web server knows if the other end of the connection is this user-hostile browser or a python/javascript bot with a spoofed user agent.

Use the source Luke! It's an "ASCII plasma background" rendered into a canvas element.

I think of GNU emacs as a 1980s-era lisp machine emulator, oh and there's also a weird text editor. Most people focus on the text editor.

Anyhow, as a terminal application, emacs is brilliant. As a GUI application, it's dog shit (gnu shit?). If I stepped in it, I wouldn't scrape off my shoe. I wouldn't even throw away my shoe. I would amputate my leg to get rid of the stench. It's that bad. The GUI isn't even a real GUI, it's bad terminal emulator that only runs emacs.

So, right, decouple the UI.

Thanks for the comment! I completely agree with the idea of decoupling the GUI from the Lisp/terminal. I think it's about time for a refresh!

I'm guessing nobody at Apple wears their WWSJD bracelet anymore, but for everyone else:

Back when I [Steve Jurvetson] was a student, I had Steve Jobs over to my house for a fireside chat with the GSB [Stanford Graduate School of Business] High Tech Club. When I asked my childhood hero if he would sign my Apple Extended Keyboard, he looked a little surprised to see Woz’s signature already there, and then he exclaimed, ‘This keyboard represents everything about Apple that I hate. It’s a battleship. Why does it have all these keys? Do you use this F1 key? No.’ And with his car keys he pried it right off. ‘I’m changing the world, one keyboard at a time,’ he concluded in a calmer voice.

Personally, I would take an Apple Extended Keyboard (or II ;-) ) over anything they've sold in the past, well, whenever they stopped selling them. (Typed from my Unicomp Model M Mac)

I had the same question about dropping HN earlier this week, and it's entirely from the the AI overflow (most of it low quality, IMO). For now, I've decided to be the change so instead I flag and hide.

Banning new/green account from submitting would probably help. /ask is full of green How do I AI? posts.

Based on the old soviet joke, the first time you blame it on your predecessor, the second time you blame it on your advisors, the third time you write 3 letters. Since Kristi Noem was fired yesterday, maybe we've moved into the second letter phase.

I figured there had to be some story behind this reference, and I found this "two letters" version on Reddit - https://www.reddit.com/r/ussr/comments/1n7dips/soviet_joke_t...

Do you have a "three letter" reference?

That's the reference but I've always heard it as 3 envelopes:

1. blame your predecessor

2. blame your staff

3. write 3 letters...
