"They start by solving the easiest problems first, get some funding and hit the wall."

Exactly! Just repeat keep repeating that process!

Above all I enjoy the diversity and intellect of the perspectives within HN comments. It's truly a special place with a high caliber of valuable exchange.

Except for the few startups that consider tech power users as their demographic, I think it's naive and counterproductive for many of them to put so much time into getting their links on these sites. If they put the same effort into getting their product in front of their actual customers they would stand to benefit much more.

Forgive me if I'm missing something, it just looks like a single page Tumblr account with a quick blurb about being a "Drone VC", with no details about the people or firm behind it. Does anyone know who's behind "Drone VC" or have any more information on it?

(raises hand) Hi! Correct that it's an AngelList syndicate that I started and as seems to be the world's first drone fund. Coverage @ http://techcrunch.com/2014/06/11/drone-vc-is-a-vc-fund-for-f...

Also: https://twitter.com/dronevc https://www.facebook.com/DroneVC etc ^_^

In other news, I clearly need a better homepage than an AngelList redirect!

Links to David E. Weekly's syndicate page on Angel List (https://angel.co/dweekly/syndicate/) who appears to be @dweekyl (https://twitter.com/dweekly).

Yessir!

If you're an entrepreneur with a web/mobile startup that's got some traction and you're not sure how to go about forming a business, scaling infrastructure, monetizing, etc. feel free to reach out to me. As time permits I'm happy to help mentor or advise you so you can build a good business without making some of the mistakes a lot of us did when we didn't have that advice. It doesn't matter where you're based, as long as you've got a web/mobile product or service that's got some traction.

Thanks man.

One of my favorite films when I was younger. I discovered the music composers Phillip Glass and subsequently Steve Reich through the films. Many documentaries and media productions play on the audio visual styles Reggio popularized in the film. It's interesting how often I detect sqatsi-ism in modern film (1). Just a couple days ago while watching "Home" I felt it's presence (2).

Koyaanisqatsi was the first of a trilogy of films:

Koyaanisqatsi: Life Out of Balance http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koyaanisqatsi Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PirH8PADDgQ

Powaqqatsi: Life in Transformation http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Powaqqatsi Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNVTmWRcUbY

Naqoyqatsi: Life as War http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naqoyqatsi Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9PxT3MtTedw

The films creator, Godfrey Reggio has recently created a new work:

The original cinematographer for Koyaanisqatsi, Ron Fricke, went on to produce similar styles of films:

(1) Sqatsi-ism: Made up word to describe the type of audio visual style created and popularized in the original film, which can now be seen throughout media.

(2) Home: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqxENMKaeCU. Interesting fact, the narrator of the film sounds almost identical to the woman in Phillip Glass's song "Einstein on the Beach Play 5", which was created back when he did the score for Koyaanisqatsi. Play 5: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WmX_GgozpQs.

Note: If you enjoy documentaries TrueFilms a great resources to discover new titles you may not have seen before: http://truefilms.com. In fact, many of the titles listed above are on this list.

A good overview of the "Great Filter" in the context of the Fermi Paradox: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Filter

My personal theory is that dark matter is the great filter. We can't see them because they've taken it to a whole another level.

"At a deep level, the act of discover and the act of creation are identical." -Kevin Kelly (1)

Years ago I spoke with Kevin about this notion and it's relation to quantum mechanics. "Did the particle already exist in XYZ state (discover) or did you observation manifest (create) it." We agreed, it's the exact same thing.
