Is there any quality that dimension/size influences reliability? Heat? path lengths? Can't think of any.

As a side note, I have some USB-C devices where the "plug" part has been severely weakened. I also saw this on plastic substrate apple lightnings, so while I like we've settled on a single plug design which is correct insert any way "up" its not without its issues, regarding mechanical weakness in implementation.
